Molecular Recognition by Chalcogen Bond: Selective Charge?Transfer Crystal Formation of Dimethylnaphthalene with Selenadiazolotetracyanonaphthoquinodimethane

نویسندگان

چکیده

The title nonplanar electron acceptor (1) fused with a selenadiazole ring selectively forms crystalline charge-transfer complex (CT crystal) 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene (2,6-DMN). On the other hand, sulfur analogue (2) has less recognition ability and CT crystals both 2,6- 2,7-DMN. X-ray analyses of 1, 2, their revealed that Se???N chalcogen bond (ChB) in 1 is strong enough to determine crystal packing formation cavity suitable for 2,6-DMN. contrary, ChB through S???N contact 2 competes weak interactions such as C?H???N hydrogen bond. stronger involving Se key separate 2,6-DMN (>97 wt %) from isomer mixture containing ca. 10 % each 2,7-DMN by simple, efficient straightforward mixing-filtration-heating process.

Selective photocatalysis by means of molecular recognition.

Heterogeneous photocatalysis, using titanium dioxide as the photocatalyst of choice, is a useful technique for the degradation of many contaminants in air, in water, or on solid surfaces.1 The process, initiated by the generation of electron-hole pairs following absorption of supra-bandgap photons, continues, in most cases, through oxidation by hydroxyl radicals formed when the photogenerated h...

Carbon–Halogen Bond Activation by Selenium‐Based Chalcogen Bonding

Chalcogen bonding is a little explored noncovalent interaction similar to halogen bonding. This manuscript describes the first application of selenium-based chalcogen bond donors as Lewis acids in organic synthesis. To this end, the solvolysis of benzhydryl bromide served as a halide abstraction benchmark reaction. Chalcogen bond donors based on a bis(benzimidazolium) core provided rate acceler...

Catalytic Carbon–Chlorine Bond Activation by Selenium‐Based Chalcogen Bond Donors

Chalcogen bonding is a noncovalent interaction based on electrophilic chalcogen substituents, which shares many similarities with the more well-known hydrogen and halogen bonding. Herein, the first application of selenium-based chalcogen bond donors in organocatalysis is described. Cationic bifunctionalized organoselenium compounds activate the carbon-chlorine bond of 1-chloroisochroman in a be...
